The Department of Physics at C. M. Science College, Darbhanga is one of the oldest and most active departments of the college, dedicated to excellence in physics education, research, and academic development. The department plays a vital role in strengthening scientific temperament and analytical thinking among students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The department offers quality teaching in core and applied areas of physics, with a strong emphasis on conceptual clarity, experimental skills, and problem-solving ability. The curriculum is designed in accordance with the syllabus prescribed by Lalit Narayan Mithila University, ensuring academic rigour and relevance to modern scientific developments.

The Department of Physics is equipped with well-maintained laboratories that support practical training in classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, optics, electronics, and modern physics. Regular laboratory sessions help students gain hands-on experience and develop experimental competence.

The Department offers an eight-semester undergraduate B.Sc. (Hons.) and a four-semester postgraduate M.Sc. Courses as per NEP2020. The choice-based credit system (CBCS) has been implemented. Besides these, the Department also offers Ph.D. program in various research areas of experimental and theoretical physics.

Research in the Department is being pursued in many of the major contemporary areas of experimental and theoretical physics, viz, Nuclear Physics, High Energy Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Remote Sensing and Waveguides.
